The Search For
E.T.
Intercepting Alien Signals
by
Monte Ross
The Search For E.T. ? Intercepting
Alien Signals?, a presentation by author Monte Ross, will be featured
at the March meeting of the Saint Louis Astronomical Society.
More than four hundred planets have been
detected orbiting other stars. Has life developed on other worlds?
If so, do intelligent
beings inhabit any of these
extra-solar planets? Scientists have mounted serious efforts for several
decades to detect signs of other civilizations, but no positive results
have yet occurred.
Mr. Ross will explain why a different type of research tool - one that seeks
to detect laser communications - may be a better approach than the radio
wave studies employed so far. He will talk about the likelihood that
intelligent
life exists and the difficulties in detecting it.
Monte Ross is the Chairman and CEO of
Ultradata Systems, Inc. He was formerly the Director of Laser Space
Systems for McDonnell
Douglas, working on projects
for NASA and the U.S. Air Force. He has been interested in the search for
extra-terrestrial intelligence since 1965. His book, "The Search
For Extraterrestrials - Intercepting
Alien Signals" was published by Springer Praxis in 2009. He has also authored
numerous technical articles on optical communications theory and devices.
