Public Events

The St Louis Astronomical Society hosts more than 100 free public star parties at many locations throughout the greater St Louis area. These star parties typically start at dusk and end before midnight. The following lists just a few of the locations where our star parties are held. Please consult our Calendar for the next Star party near you!

Jefferson College Observatory - Observatory Open House and Star parties are typically scheduled on Saturday nights. Francis Park - Star parties are typically scheduled on Wednesday nights near the 1st quarter Moon. Dates for 2025 are as follows: 4/2, 5/7, 6/4, 7/2, 7/30, 8/27, 9/3, 10/1, 10/29. Click this link to download the 2025 Francis Park Public Telescope Viewing Nights

Tower Grove Park - Star parties are typically scheduled on Saturday nights near the 1st quarter Moon. Dates for 2025 are as follows: 4/5, 5/3, 6/7, 7/5, 8/2, 9/6, 10/4. Click this link to download the 2025 Tower Grove Public Telescope Viewing Nights.

Saint Louis Science Center - SLAS has longstanding partnership with the St. Louis Science Center to hosts public viewing sessions. Viewing sessions are typically held on the Friday nights, next to the McDonnell Planetarium. Dates for 2025 are as follows: 2/7, 3/7, 4/4, 5/2, 6/1. A free Planetarium program precedes the start of the star party. Daytime Public Solar Viewing are held on Sundays. Dates for 2025 Solar Viewing are as follows: 1/19, 2/16, 3/16, 4/20, 5/18, 5/25, 6/1, 6/8, 6/15, 6/22, 6/29 . Public Libraries - As part of the Library Telescope program, SLAS routinely hosts star parties in metro St. Louis areas.

Jefferson National Expansion Memorial “Under the Arch” - Star parties are held on the grounds directly under the Gateway Arch in conjunction with the free “Gateway to the Stars” National Park Service program.

75+ years serving St. Louis

The St. Louis Astronomical Society (SLAS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit established in 1936.  SLAS is devoted to the interest and advancement of the science of astronomy.  With over 200 members, SLAS is the largest astronomical society in the metro St. Louis area.
