Public Events
The St Louis Astronomical Society hosts more than 100 free public star parties at many locations throughout the greater St Louis area. These star parties typically start at dusk and end before midnight. The following lists just a few of the locations where our star parties are held. Jefferson College Observatory - Observatory Open House and Star parties are typically scheduled on Saturday nights. Saint Louis Science Center - SLAS has longstanding partnership with the St. Louis Science Center to hosts public viewing sessions. Viewing sessions are typically held on the Friday nights, next to the McDonnell Planetarium. Dates for 2025 are as follows: 2/7, 3/7, 4/4, 5/2, 6/1. A free Planetarium program precedes the start of the star party. Daytime Public Solar Viewing are held on Sundays. Dates for 2025 Solar Viewing are as follows: 1/19, 2/16, 3/16, 4/20, 5/18, 5/25, 6/1, 6/8, 6/15, 6/22, 6/29 . Public Libraries - As part of the Library Telescope program, SLAS routinely hosts star parties in metro St. Louis areas.
Jefferson National Expansion Memorial “Under the Arch” - Star parties are held on the grounds directly under the Gateway Arch in conjunction with the free “Gateway to the Stars” National Park Service program.
